We build mantels from scratch and we install supplier units. Which approach is right depends on the situation.

A custom-built surround gives you full control over proportions, profiles, and materials. We work from drawings or collaborate directly with the architect or designer. This is often the path for heritage homes where the original mantel is gone, or for new builds where the client wants something specific.

For supplier mantels we handle delivery coordination, installation, and integration with existing conditions. A mantel that looks good in a showroom can look wrong on a wall if the proportions do not work or the installation is not clean.

Working with what is there.

Fireplace retrofit carpentry is about the surround -- the casing, the mantel shelf, the legs, the overmantel. We work with the existing firebox, opening, and wall conditions. The job is to enhance what is there so the new surround looks like it was always meant to be there.
